Training Course IMO Level 2

in MOIG Events

19-21 May 2025, the training course on “Response to Accidental Oil Pollution at Sea and on the Shoreline – IMO Level 2” was held at the Bizerta Resort Hotel in Bizerte, Tunisia. The course was organized in cooperation with the Center for Documentation, Research and Experimentation on Accidental Water Pollution (Cedre) and the Tunisian Society of Refining Industries (STIR).

The course was delivered by Arnaud GUENA and Nicolas JARRY, both experts from Cedre, and brought together 35 delegates from MOIG members and various ministries. Participating entities included: APO, Azzawia Oil Refinery, DESMI, ETAP, ONPC, the Ministry of National Defence, NOC, SEREPT, Sirte Oil Company, STIR, TANKMED, TPAO, TOPIC, TPS, and TRAPSA.

The main objectives of this training course were to anticipate the fate and behaviour of oil spills in the aquatic environment, to gain concrete practical knowledge of response strategies and techniques, to select appropriate equipment to respond to spills, to contribute to the development of a contingency plan and to improve the level of preparedness and response.

The training programme featured a series of oral presentations covering five key topics: Introduction to accidental pollution, behaviour of oil, response on water, shoreline response and principles of crisis management. In addition, participants had the opportunity to apply their knowledge through three tabletop simulation exercises replicating oil spill scenarios in port, beach and rocky shoreline environments. We were very pleased with the productive and collaborative working atmosphere throughout the course.

MOIG members, representatives from Libyan oil and gas companies and Tunisian ministries worked together, exchanged perspectives, and applied the knowledge acquired during the tabletop exercises in a constructive and engaging manner.

At the conclusion of the event, certificates were awarded to all participants by the Management Committee Members.

The Management Committee would like to extend sincere thanks to Arnaud GUENA and Nicolas JARRY for delivering a high-quality training course and sharing their valuable expertise, which significantly contributed to the success of this event.
