in MOIG News

As part of its 2014 activities, MOIG organized; from 02 to 04 June 2014; an Oil Spill Response Exercise at Cercina field. in Kerkennah Island in Tunisia.

The event was organized in cooperation with Thyna Petroleum Services (TPS) and International Environmental Marine and Services (IEMS).

The main objectives of the exercise were to test the notification procedures, to demonstrate the ability to coordinate, monitor, contain and recover an oil spill in accordance with the requirements prescribed in the TPS emergency plan.

The working scenario simulated an oil leak from the shipping subsea pipeline in the delta.

The exercise was a great success and gathered forty six (46) representatives from Oil and Gas industry in Tunisia and the Mediterranean region such: ETAP, OMV, TPS, NOC, IEMS, SEREPT, STORM, SNDP, MARETAP, TPAO, ENI Lybia, AGOCO and RASCO, YMS and GMT.

We rejoiced particularly at the presence of Mr Mahmoud Kamour, MOIG Chairman and Mr Malek Kallel, Member of Management Committee.

The Steering Committee Members and Evaluators have reported the high motivation of TPS response team during all phases of the exercise, which gave as all the opportunity to provide several recommendations.

This exercise offered a good opportunity for all participants and particularly TPS response team to share good practices and lessons learned on oil spill preparedness and response with the aim to make it better for the next exercise. Due to the success of the TPS Exercise there is an opportunity to organize a future more focused Tier 2 Oil Spill Response Exercise.

The Management Committee Members would like to thank:

  1. TPS for their warming welcome and high cooperation during the pre-exercise and exercise
  2. IEMS for their hospitality by providing technical and operational support to TPS through the MOIG.
