Visit to ATRAC, Rijeka - Croatia

Between 10 and 12 April 2019, the MOIG Director was invited by the Adriatic Training and Research Centre for Accidental Marine Pollution Preparedness and Response (ATRAC); Technical Partner; based in Rijeka-Croatia.
ATRAC is an institution established by the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (Croatia) within the EU financed project – HAZADR and its main missions are :

  1. To provide training and education to the personal from all Adriatic countries in all matters related to oil spill preparedness and response
  2. To improve cross-border cooperation and communication
  3. To harmonize national legislations within the region by continuously monitoring all the activities related to prevention, preparedness and response to accidental marine pollution.

We were very pleased to meet ATRAC Director; Mr. Vedran Martinic and the Marine Environment Protection Associates: Ms. Nikolina Stanic, Ms Anja Pilepić and Mr. Marko Dordevic.
MOIG has beautiful memories in Croatia and maintained solid relationships with ATRAC and JANAF who supported MOIG in the organization of the regional workshop held in Zagreb in 2007.
The Management Committee is very delighted with the outcome of this visit crowned with success and concluded with the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ATRAC and MOIG. Both parties agreed to further strengthen collaboration and work together towards common objectives related to oil spill prevention, preparedness and response in the Adriatic and the Mediterranean regions.
ATRAC and MOIG recognize through this MoU the interest of cooperation on information exchange, in joint organization of seminars, workshop, conferences, training courses and exercises as well as in research and experimentation projects or programs in the field of oil or HNS spill response technology and other items.
In addition, ATRAC facilitated two visits to Dezinsekcija company and the Faculty of Maritime Studies Rijeka. During these visits, the MOIG Director afforded the opportunity to see the Tier 2 base of Dezinsekcija company containing a range of Oil Spill Response equipments as well as to follow two simulation exercises of ship movements in the Marine Department of the Faculty of Maritime Studies Rijeka.
The MOIG Director would like to thank the representatives of ATRAC, Dezinsekcija company and the Faculty of Maritime Studies Rijeka for their warm welcome, kind hospitality and high cooperation during these visits and extend an invitation to ATRAC representatives to visit MOIG in Tunisia.
