MOIG Regional Workshop, Nicosia-Cyprus

The MOIG Regional Workshop on “Oil Spill Preparedness and Response Partners” was held in Nicosia-Cyprus on 10-11 December 2014.

The workshop was organized by the Mediterranean Oil Industry Group (MOIG) in cooperation with IEMS Egypt and Shipcon Limassol-Cyprus.

The main objectives of the workshop were:

  1. To enhance communication and expert networking (MOIG Initiative)
  2. To recognize regional efforts and identify further actions
  3. To benefit from Manufacturers and Responders technical expertise
  4. To clarify preparedness and response expectations and establish key recommendations.

A total twelve (12) speakers from Responders, Manufactures, Cyprus Government, United Nations organization, Public Institutions and Private Companies contributed to this event providing specific presentations.

The workshop gathered thirty-nine (39) participants from twenty-two (23) oil companies, responders, manufactures, specialized agencies and associations, governmental and non-governmental organizations, training centre such as: ETAP, REMPEC, SAMIR, IEMS, NRC, DESMI, SHELL, SEREPT, TPS, SNDP, SWIRE, TANKMED, CYPRUS OIL&GAS ASSOCIATION, LAMOR, NOBLE ENERGY, FAMELINE OIL & GAS, SHIPCON LIMASSOL, LEVANTINE TRAINING CENTER, DEPARTMENT MERCHANT SHIPPIING, LEMISSOLER NAVIGATION CO, VTTV, SEAHARVEST and SELLENCO.

Four main topics have been discussed during the workshop which are:

  1. Regional cooperation
  2. Planning and Response
  3. Response equipments and new technologies
  4. Oil Spill Response and challenges.
